How Change owner from root to user for filename in Ubuntu/Linux


chown -R <username>.<username> <filename>

Example :

My PC username is shimpu and filename is test.txt having root as owner. I want to change the owner from root to shimpu.
  • Go the the folder location from console
  • Type chown -R shimpu.shimpu test.txt
